WIM Maldives Chapter recognized 29 women at its WIM 2nd Professional & Career Women Awards 2019
WIM Maldives which is a Chapter of WIM Sri Lanka celebrated its Second Annual WIM Awards, Maldives on the 13th July 2019 in Male.
29 women received the Professional and Career Women Awards 2019 the awards were given out during a ceremony held at the auditorium of Faculty of Health Science.
The event was graced by the Minister of Gender, Family and Social Service Ms Sidhatha Shareef, Minister of Communication, Science and Technology, Mr. Maleeh Jamal and Minister of Housing and Urban Development Ms. Aminath Athifa were amongst the Guest of Honors who attended the event, with further other State and Deputy Ministers and Corporate Heads.
President of the WIM Maldivian Chapter of, Minha Faiz Rashaad has said "that equal opportunity is denied to women in the Maldives despite it's Constitutional authority and the polices adopted."
The keynote speaker Ms. Roshanie Jayasundera Moraes said "Fearless women do thing which world label as crazy, and those women only has brought change to the world and I say be crazy so that you can be the change"
Ms. Mariyam Waheeda was awarded Woman of Year at the awards. Waheeda has served in numerous State and Government positions for 42 years. At the age of 67, the mother of five continues to take part in a number of national marathons including a national record on 19 April with a full marathon.
The Founder and Chairperson of Women in Management Dr. Sulochana Segera said "WIM Maldives membership is very young. Many of the members and its winners are well educated and hold many professional positions. But it's time that WIM Maldives start spreading their wings to other Islands and start women empowerment and addressing Island main issues such as youth and family issues, these Award recipients can be the mentors for these projects"
