WIM Single Mother Programme lends a hand to deserving students

Women in Management contributed books and stationery to 100 students in Mihintale and Mulaitivu on the 17th and 18th of January 2019, a CSR Project of the WIM Single Mother Programme.

In Mihintale, 50 children were selected specially by the District Secretary. Most children thus selected had either a single parent or none, while some had parents who were ill, diagnosed with a kidney disease or cancer. There were several children whose parents had committed suicide, while some of the mothers were teenagers, and in addition, a plethora of social issues were challenging these children's education.

The school in Mulaitivu had been affected by the war, but having been rebuilt, provides education to 382 students. The school has classes up to GCE Advanced Level and thus far has had a success rate of 100% at the GCE Advanced Level Examination. The students who benefited from this contribution are children from women headed households.

Books and stationery worth 185,000 LKR were distributed, the amount which was raised from a special fundraising initiative of WIM, a stage drama that took place in 2018. Some of the items distributed among the deserving children were gifted by members of WIM and by previous WIM award winners.
